[HOW TO] Open Websites In Chrome Using Safari Bookmarklet

I’m sure you’re all excited about the Chrome release for iOS. Google Chrome is now the No.1 Free App for iOS in the AppStore. In fact, users love it much more than Safari Browser in iOS.

Now here’s the issue: How can I open links in Google Chrome instead of Safari?

Well, I’d you are Jailbroken, you can use a new Jailbreak tweak called ‘BrowserChooser’. This tweak let’s users to set any browser as their default browser, in this case, the Google Chrome.

But what if you’re not Jailbroken? The solution is below, this is a little JavaScript trick using the Safari bookmarks. To use this trick, users must first view the web page in Safari, and then tap a bookmark on the bookmarks bar to open the current page in Chrome. It ain’t perfect, but it’ll have to do!

So here’s how to do it:

  • Open Safari and open any WebSite, I have open Google here.
  • Then tap the sharing button and create a bookmark for the bookmarks bar and name it “Open In Chrome” or whatever! You won’t be able to edit the URL now.
  • Now tap the bookmarks icon, and tap edit button on top-right. Now select the “Open In Chrome” Bookmark and change the URL from this
  • To this javascript:location.href=”googlechrome”+location.href.substring(4);
  • That’s it! Now whenever you are viewing a page in Safari, just tap the “Open In Chrome” bookmark to view the same page in Google Chrome.

Neat trick right? Let us know your thoughts below!
